About Me

I am a 25-year old Australian currently working in Indonesia as an Australian Volunteer (AVI) at the International Center for Islam and Pluralism (ICIP) in Jakarta. I have been in Indonesia as an AVI since 2006, though I’d previously spent a year in Yogyakarta on the ACICIS (Australian Consortium for In Country Indonesian Studies) program in 2003-2004.

My interests are in Indonesian politics and history, as well as Islam.

I converted to Islam on August 17th, 2007. Some people suggested I change my name to Mohammad Hatta to fit the ocassion, but I felt Jordan Newton was just fine.

I got married in January 2008 and hope it at least lasts until January 2009 to start with (heheh).
